Why September Is the Best Time to Start

The long summer break takes its toll — many students return in September having lost a little ground and confidence in maths, simply because they haven't practised for six weeks. Putting support in place right at the start of term reverses that quickly, and means your child builds momentum from week one rather than spending the autumn catching up.

September is also when the year's foundations are laid: new topics, a new class, and for some a whole new stage of study. Getting ahead early — instead of waiting until problems appear at Christmas or before the summer exams — makes the entire year calmer and more successful. Because lessons are one-to-one, places are genuinely limited, so the best times to enquire are late August and early September.

September Enrolment — FAQs

When should I book a maths tutor for the new school year? +

Late August and early September are the ideal times to book. Starting as the new term begins helps your child settle quickly, rebuild any confidence lost over the summer, and stay ahead from the very first week. One-to-one places are limited, so early enquiries are best.

Can you help a student who didn't get the GCSE maths grade they wanted? +

Yes. After August results I support students who are resitting GCSE maths or who need to reach a grade 4 or 5 for their college course, with focused work on the topics and exam technique that will make the difference.

Can you help my child settle into A Level Maths in September? +

Yes. The start of A Level Maths is a big step up from GCSE. I help new A Level students bridge that gap early — strengthening the algebra everything relies on and building understanding of the first topics before they fall behind.

When does the new school year start on the Isle of Man? +

For 2026/27, the autumn term on the Isle of Man begins on Thursday 3 September 2026, following staff training days on 1 and 2 September. It's the perfect moment to put regular maths support in place for the year ahead.

Are September lessons face-to-face or online? +

Both. I offer face-to-face tutoring in Douglas and live online one-to-one lessons for students across the Isle of Man, so you can choose whatever fits your family's routine for the new term.
